Damaged Shingles – How Can Kansas City Roofers Mend Them?

Considering that some 12.8 million people are currently unemployed in the United States, budget constraints can make you think twice about approaching professional Kansas City roofers for that roof inspection.

You may be worried about footing the bill for a complete roof replacement or an extensive re-reroofing job. But did you know that you need not limit yourself to these two recommendations?

Part of a roofer’s job is to carry out both minor and major repairs. Any honest contractor will not tell you to replace your roof when it can still be mended. The same goes for your asphalt shingles.

The typical repair process consists of the following:

1. Your roof, gutter, and attic will be inspected. Repairs sans inspections are premature.

The most critical part to mending deformed shingles is that the roofer inspects and correctly diagnoses what’s causing the damage. In most cases, damage to the shingle and certain deformities are merely symptoms of a bigger problem.

2. Installations are re-checked and re-worked if needed. Things as simple as incorrectly sized nails and improper nailing patterns can cause shingles to deform.

3. Broken shingles are removed and simply replaced. Insisting that they be salvaged can compromise the ability of your asphalt roof to withstand leaks.

4. Curled, cupped, and fishmouthed shingles can be straightened, provided the distortion is not yet severe. They are typically “glued” back and re-nailed to your roof using some adhesive.

5. Cracked shingles, if found defective and still covered by the manufacturer’s warranty, will be replaced. Otherwise, the cracks will be caulked using adhesive and trace amounts of asphalt granules.

Today, a lot of homeowners readily take advantage of the free inspection and on-site roof quote invitation that Kansas City roofers offer. It’s a great way to know the condition of your current roof without forking out any cash just yet.
